What my clients say
CUSTOM FRAGRANCE
Memory encodes our encounters with the world – shapes and colors of things, sounds and smells and tastes. I have a poor visual memory. When I meet people for the first time, I have to make a conscious effort to memorize their faces, otherwise I may not recognize them when we meet again. The opposite is true about my sense of smell: I have an excellent olfactive memory, which can be disturbing. Imagine that you encounter a scent that you smelled only once, years ago, and you don’t know what it is. You have a good nose but not enough olfactive concepts – the gods have created a world of smells but fell short of naming it. While trying to identify and label smells I fell in love with fragrances. But I needed guidance, and I found it with Mirabilis.
When I went there, I wanted to learn to identify ingredients and to find a scent that I could call my own. But I knew nothing about the world of natural perfumes. A whole new world opened up to me when dr. Pusa started to perform her magic. It is not an exaggeration – seeing her in action is like witnessing a magician’s act. She makes a bold claim; she sets the stage; she performs; she demonstrates. At the end, the audience – whether it’s one person or several – is enchanted and transformed.
Mirabilis offered me instruction and entertainment of the highest quality. I could take courses: cultural anthropology, intellectual history, and everything else about fragrances and ideals of beauty changing across centuries. I had workshops, where I learned what natural essences actually smell like, what they can do and how to mix them. And, most importantly, I had what I can only call exercises in self discovery. I learned that certain ideas I had about myself were wrong – I had thought I liked certain things and I was proven mistaken. I found the scent I was looking for and it was not what I had expected. And I learned patience: natural elixirs need to be gently nourished and given enough time to express themselves fully.
With Dr. Pusa I didn’t just learn about natural fragrances – I understood them. They are living entities: they are born in the natural world (some in the most extraordinary circumstances), evolve in it, and die. They have healing properties, they can kill, they are attracted to / reject one other according to certain principles and laws. Some combinations lead to amazing transmutations. And so I started to understand human kind’s centuries-long love affair with alchemy and I wanted to discover my own philosopher’s stone, which would not bestow eternal life upon me, but a lifetime of amazement and delight. This has been my first journey in the land of Mirabilis. There will be others, I am sure!
